Eh bien, on a \u00ab\u00a0laiss\u00e9 les bons temps rouler.\u00a0\u00bb En quoi \u00e7a consiste? C&rsquo;est tout simple en fait: on a pris la voiture, conduit 90 bornes jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Galveston et pay\u00e9 22 dollars (chacun) pour entrer dans le district historique. Et l\u00e0 on a saut\u00e9, saut\u00e9, saut\u00e9 comme des idiots pendant toute la journ\u00e9e pour attraper des colliers de pacotille jet\u00e9s depuis les balcons ou depuis des chars. Quand on a eu fini, on est rentr\u00e9s \u00e0 la maison avec nos 4 kilos de fausse verroterie en plastique toute emm\u00eal\u00e9e et inutile qui encombre maintenant un tiroir entier*. Mais on \u00e9tait ravis et fiers. (Certes 3 millions de colliers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9s lors du festival mais qu&rsquo;il y avait tout de m\u00eame 300000 visiteurs, alors avouez que notre score est fort honorable) Bref, on a beaucoup ri et surtout bien aim\u00e9 Mardi Gras, cette tradition cadienne r\u00e9put\u00e9e sur l&rsquo;\u00eele de Galveston, la plus importante manifestation de la sorte au Texas. Cette ann\u00e9e, pour la 106 \u00e8me \u00e9dition, la folie s&rsquo;est une fois encore empar\u00e9e de la ville, durant deux semaines hautes en couleurs et en musique. Bal masqu\u00e9s, concerts, f\u00eates de balcons et bien s\u00fbr les c\u00e9l\u00e8bres parades (22 cette ann\u00e9e) ont mis la ville en effervescence. Dans les rues, les chars des confr\u00e9ries (Krewes) d\u00e9filent sur des th\u00e8mes mythologiques ou all\u00e9goriques, les golfeurs se prom\u00e8nent dans leurs voiturettes d\u00e9cor\u00e9es, et m\u00eame les animaux familiers, assortis \u00e0 leurs propri\u00e9taires, reprennent les couleurs du Mardi Gras: Violet pour la justice, Vert pour la foi et la paix, Or pour la puissance. Et tout un chacun de lancer \u00e0 la foule enthousiaste les fameux rangs de perles et des doublons, r\u00e9pliques de pi\u00e8ces espagnoles: la coutume fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la Renaissance, quand les nobles jetaient argent et cadeaux \u00e0 la populace, mais ici, il y en a clairement plus et \u00e7a porte bonheur! Ah, tous ces colliers&#8230;les enfants sont fascin\u00e9s et nous aussi, on comprend soudain ce que les indiens ont ressenti quand les conquistadors sont arriv\u00e9s avec leur verroterie. Mais on n&rsquo;est pas les seuls \u00e0 aimer \u00e7a: Galveston, c&rsquo;est sans doute le seul endroit au Texas ou vous verrez des policiers souriants, portant autour du cou des colliers de boules en plastique color\u00e9.
